We identified the needs of the people in many ways and provided electricity to the houses, built latrines for the welfare of widows, and provided financial assistance. Today, our service has grown with two child care homes and an old age home in the area of Pottuvil in Ampara district.

The Humble Beginnings There are a thousand memories, including the birth of Mercy on that day, and the memories from the beginning to this day. 2008.04.12 – The day he started his ministry in Arugambay. The Arugambay Church was started as an individual, that is, Pastor Gajendran. He faced many struggles, difficulties, worries, and neglect from people, but he fought as an individual.
On that day, Mercy’s social work program had no name, no place, no introduction, no helpers. We saw difficulties and failures, and we can go on talking about it. As long as there is ink in the pen, there is space on the paper. Despite all this hardship, Mercy started that day with six boys.
Overcoming Failures & Helping the Community We had been doing it for many years but could not continue. We saw failures after failures, but we did not give up on doing social services. We continued to strive hard. We identified the needs of the people in many ways. We provided electricity to houses and built latrines for the welfare of widows.
We provided financial assistance to raise chickens, goats, and grow gardens. We offered small assistance in building houses, provided uniforms, textbooks, cool packs, and washing carts to school-going children. We even provided men with wheelbarrows to encourage them to start their own businesses. We have been providing many such assistance since the beginning.
A New Dawn in Pottuvil We are very happy that today we have grown up as a big light and came to the town of Pottuvil as a mercy. Back then, there was no place to support children; today there is a place that is needed. Back then, we wanted to support and care for elderly parents; today, we have received a hand to care for them.
Therefore, our expanded services started on 2023.12.23 with two child care homes and an old age home in the Pottuvil area of Ampara district, under the Thirukoil Pradeshiya Sabha, Srivallipura Kanchipuram. All the services we started that day continue without any shortcomings today.
Our Hope for the Future Today, with a new morning, a new glow, and a beautiful fragrance, our Mercy social welfare projects are being carried out. Therefore, let us help, encourage, and work with determination. Let us create a selfless society, unite with the ideas of no caste, no religion, no difference, and protect the welfare of the people.
Let us bring prosperity back to the beautiful country of Sri Lanka. Let us identify the people in need, bring happiness to the lives of students, create a revival in the lives of widows, and create many new projects for the young community. With the help of the Arugambay Church, the church people, and the public, prosperity will come.
